Kingdom of Dreams

Presently enjoying the much needed hiatus from work, the past 2 weeks have been nothing short of awesome. And adding to that I finally am staying at home, for more than just a vacation, after a good long 5 years. Feels surreal, and reminds me of the good ol' days when things like What is on TV tonight? or What is there for dinner? were my biggest worries. Its almost like I, myself am living in a Kingdom of Dreams (KOD).

So what actually is KOD. As their very own marketing campaign says, "It is Dilli Haat on steroids". Aptly put. Its a modern cultural hub. A blend of India's art, culture, heritage, craft, cuisine et. al, with all the technological wizardry of today. And if I daresay, it does give a feel of an elaborate film studio set, after all it is designed by one. Also, as a matter of fact, construction cost is estimated at a whopping Rs. 200 crores, and it feels like it. It has 3 main divisions as of now:

  1. Culture Gully: an elaborate culture, arts, crafts and food boulevard.
  2. Nautanki Mahal: showcasing an extravagant cinematic and theatrical musical.
  3. Showshaa Theatre: a fabulous, colourful drama marquee spotlighting Indian mythology productions, a mock wedding show and the great Indian talent circus.
The latter two will be opening soon.
With Nautanki Mahal being India's first platform for live entertainment musical theatre, amongst other things, we very well now have our very own Broadway/Opera House/Moulin Rouge, and from what I gathered from the news, the production of the first Bollywood Musical is already on its way for the same.  Above all, India finally has a sky-like (Venetian-like) ceiling indoors. And it is Magnificent, to say the least, aesthetically pleasant and southing to soul (I still wonder though, what took them so long, when even Qatar has got it).

The tickets though are priced at the higher end, 750 bucks. Out of 50 is refundable and 600 you can (and must spend) inside. I think its simply brilliant. You just can't have the place over-crowded, for it to be enjoyable. It also ensures you just aren't there for window shopping. And that 750 does help the managers in maintenance of this place, which would definitely be higher than normal - Strategy EpitomeBesides, to tell you the truth, food alone will have all the cash drained out of your smartcards, and you'd end up spending more, as I did. Some really cool arts and crafts that you find in remote corners of India, you could find here. And if you still have doubts in your mind as to whether it is worth, it definitely is. You might not want to flock the place regularly, but occasionally. It definitely helps you take the edge off of stuff and helps you get lost in your dreams.

My trip was mostly about indulging in foods from across India, marveling at the beautiful sights and checking out various cultural dances. Also, there was one magical show, which was quite decent. Oh, and 70 kms of driving after a good long year :D And it involved some voracious clicking, albeit from my cell. Check out few that I have uploaded here.

Until next time then...
Harry.

Review: Dialogue in the Dark (DiD), Hyderabad - An Unlit Experience of a kind

Ambiance ***** Food **** Experience ***** Overall ***** Often, we wonder, how would it be like to experience the world in someone else's shoes. Dialogue in the Dark gives you an overwhelming experience on one such foray. Located in the sprawling Madhapur area of Hyderabad, a stones throwaway from the Hitech City, this is the area of the city that will blend modern India with the city of Nizams for you. Located on the 3rd floor of Inorbit Mall, as soon as you reach the reception desk of the restaurant, you'll start feeling awe. What greets you is an 'unassuming' person at the reception, who matter of factly mentions, that this experience would be unique for you. There are rules to be followed, and he hands over a list of the same - key being, you don't have anything on you which emits light, in any environmental condition. Curiously placed are a few Walking Sticks lying in a corner allow your imagination run wild for a little while. The m...

Google Allo - And its Content Ratings on iOS

Google just launched their new messaging app Allo in an already overcrowded market. Now there are plenty of opinions online, that you can read, talking about what are the chances that Allo succeed, so we are not going to talk about it here. However, when trying to download the app on iOS through App Store, an interesting thing caught my attention. The content rating that was given to this messaging app was 17+ with further click ins such as: Nudity, Profanity etc. On the other hand, a simple comparison with WhatsApp (the debatable leader in the market), you'd realize the same has a rating of 4+. Screenshot Dt. 23rd Sept 2016: Taken on India App Store on iPhone Similar to PG ratings on entertainment contents, App Store has the following scale : 4+, 9+, 12+ and 17+ with the varying scales of nudity, profanity, violence and other such adult (not "child" safe) references. But its simply baffling to have such a huge gap between the content rating for tw...

Mom Dad's Card

Impromptu 10 Mins:   “ I am still a big mystery, if fact, I myself don't know wht I am capable of  http://mail.google.com/mail/e/gtalk.347 " width="14" />   You wouldn't believe when I first discussed this idea with Saransh, Chachi and Nupur di, all of 'em were like 'what? u thought of this?' and the apparently people were like 'Harshit ne socha yeh sab, baap re' Such was the built up hype.   Then all the work that I'd put in for a good part of 2 weeks, daant bhi khaayi papa se, roz ghumne chala jaata hai, wagarah, i made the card at a friend’s place, the hiccups, the tension and everythin, so worth it.   And when finally people saw, I could see them drooling all over it   we had a reading, at 12 on 12 th . I read all the cards in front of every1 in my typical delhi tone, ppl went berserk, laughing aloud, such was the effect, bade log bhi yes....   and finally, sabne mujhe 1 nahi, 2-3 baar sunaya ki how i had pulled it o...
