A Messi Affair !!

Expectations. Expectations. A clash between Argentina and Venezuela was lying at the ditch near the bottom of the pyramid, and people were just concerned about one phenomenon (yes, he is nothing less than a phenomenon), the converging point of the sides of the pyramid, LIONEL MESSI. And boy, did he put on his charm and mesmerized Kolkata with his masterly, skillful display. Going Back and Forth… A transition from 4 years of my life, when high attendance was not even joked about, to a phase wherein I get confused easily between the place where I’m supposed to study and the place where I’m supposed to sleep, life has almost come a full circle. But the centre point still remains the same. Life is meant to be lived fully, taking pleasure in whatever hogs your timeline. And that is precisely what I have been trying to do with all the deadlines. In hindsight though, whatever the case may be, you never should lose sight of ‘the real stuff’. And football does offer you that kick. Even more s...

Brasil vs England : Match Day

14/11/2009 The day started in the usual manner. Me getting up at 4:30 in the morning, boarding the bus at 5:10, reaching site at 5:50, breakfast, work etc. But, it was not just 'any other day'. It had somthing in it that could make me drool all over myself. Something that I have dreamt off, perhaps not every day of the past 4 years, but certainly on days of every good football match I have seen. If you think I was excited the past week, you should have seen me today. I was all over the place. Work was sloppy, the consultant even postponed some of day's agenda's on my account to the next day. Kind of him, yes. Add to that he dropped me to the stadium at 1615, ya, i did get off work a good 1 hour before time, thanks to my english boss, who just couldn't say no (although he did let in slip that if england loses, he'd kill me :)). The FAN FAIR supposedly started at 1500. Was in full flow when I joined in. I have never been to a live game before, I had huge exp...

England vs Brazil -- 14th Nov 2009 Preview.

Hi all, Things are in hyper mode as I sit and write this. It has been one of those things that I always wanted to do. Now, finally, of all the places that I imagined where I would end up watching my first live football match, it is Qatar. Qatar might not be such a great place to live as yet, it will still take atleast 10 yrs to get into the league of Dubai, but it surely is right up there when we talk about sports. The country's passion for sports in undeniable. They have already hosted Asian Games in 2006 successfully, with 2011 Asian Indoor Games and 2011 AFC Asian Cup Finals on the radar. They have both men's and women's ATP World tours stopping here, with most of the top seeds making appearances. And dare I forget, Qatar's bid for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Finals and its humongous chances of winning the same, with South Korea being the only other bidding nation. All that aside, the current focus shifts to the all important (well, important for me ;)) friendly between ...
